What We Do

We know that the arts are not a luxury - they are essential. The arts inspire curiosity, build empathy, and equip young people with the tools to face the world with confidence and creativity.

KCYA exists to unlock the extraordinary potential within every student, by harnessing the transformational power of the arts in education. We believe that when young people experience consistent access to arts programming, they develop critical skills that prepare them for success in school, work, and life.

In our 65+ year history as a 501c3 nonprofit, we have impacted the lives of 6 million children in the Kansas City area.

How We Do It

We offer arts programming across creative disciplines tailored to the needs of youth, families, and educators:

  • Community School of the Arts: Dance, music, acting, theatre, and visual arts classes and Summer Camps are offered year-round for children ages 3 - 17 at our midtown facility on Main Street. More about our Community School of the Arts

  • School and Community Programs: Our professional teaching artists bring Arts programs into schools and community spaces throughout the Kansas City area. Our programs are designed to inspire and engage students, enhancing their learning in key curriculum areas through the arts. More about In School and Community Programs

  • Arts Partners: We facilitate a consortium of 14 Kansas City professional arts organizations representing all artistic disciplines to deliver a comprehensive arts-integration plan at the school district level. More about Arts Partners

We are committed to keeping the arts accessible for ALL children. Supporters provide funding to offset the costs of programming, keeping barriers to participation low for families and schools.

The arts don’t just enrich lives, the arts shape futures. Join us to help build a thriving, arts-filled community for all kids.
