Kansas City’s growth from a “cowtown” to the “Paris of the Plains” during the years around the turn of the last century is reflected in its own popular music. Students will hear music written by Kansas Citians progressing from marches and ragtime to jazz and swing, while viewing images of places and people from the city’s past. The sounds and sights of the program are enhanced by narrative highlighting our local culture during an era of change.

Requirements: computer, projector ,and screen for power point presentation of slides, microphone, four music stands, and four chairs. Teachers must be present at all times during performance.
