In this five-session residency, students will explore the life and legacy of a historical social justice leader. Through painting and illustration, they will create their own portraits and write a personal pledge to carry on their leader’s mission. By studying their leader’s history, accomplishments, and traits, students will reflect on their own strengths and how to use them to create positive change. The residency culminates in a meaningful portrait that celebrates both the leader’s impact and the students’ creativity and self-reflection.
Requirements: Worktables or large open space for students to work. Artist needs 15 – 20 minutes to set up supplies for the workshop. If two or more workshops are scheduled, students need to come to the room where the artist is. Teachers must be present at all times during workshops.
